2 p.m. - Update on the police report

Shortly after 10:30 a.m., a report was received of an accident between two streetcars on the line between the Sportforum and Sparkassenarena. The fire department, ambulance service, police, local transport officials and the city of Jena, as well as emergency services, immediately went to the scene. A streetcar in the 6-series had braked here for reasons that are still unclear. The 8-series streetcar behind it then rear-ended it. The top priority was to provide first aid to the injured. A total of 12 people were injured in the accident, nine of them with minor injuries and three with moderate injuries. Medical care was subsequently provided by the local hospital and surrounding hospitals. The material damage could not yet be determined on site, nor the exact course of the accident. The recovery of both trains is still ongoing. A detour route has been set up by local transport.

11:44 a.m. - Information from Jenaer Nahverkehr

A serious traffic accident occurred this morning at around 10:45 a.m. in the Oberaue on a section of the Saalebrücke bridge. A streetcar on line 5 traveling out of the city collided with a streetcar on line 4 when the latter had to stop for a third streetcar. The exact cause of the accident is still being investigated.

A total of ten people have been reported injured so far. Emergency services and police are at the scene.

The accident is currently causing disruptions to lines 1, 4 and 5, and Jena's local public transport service has set up a rail replacement service with buses for its passengers. Road traffic is not affected.
