BürgerEnergie-Treff: How will we heat in the future?
At a public event, interested citizens were able to find out about the current status of municipal heating planning in Jena. In the well-attended Rathausdiele, the city of Jena, the planning office HIC - Hamburg Institut Consulting GmbH and Stadtwerke Jena Netze GmbH reported on the progress made in developing the strategically important heating plan for Jena. The event was jointly organized by BürgerEnergie Jena eG and the City of Jena.
HIC - Hamburg Institut Consulting GmbH is currently developing a municipal heating plan for the city of Jena on behalf of the city administration of Jena. The municipal heat planning is intended to determine how much heat is currently needed locally, how heat demand is developing and which heat sources and infrastructure can be used to provide heat in the future - in a climate-neutral manner. The heat planning should therefore provide information on which areas of Jena can be heated in the future using district heating, decentralized local heating networks, electrical solutions or, if necessary, hydrogen. Municipal heat planning is therefore an important strategic planning instrument for the municipality for the long-term design of the heat supply.
Prof. Reinhard Guthke, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BürgerEnergie Jena eG, hosted the evening. The guests were welcomed by Kevin Muschalle-Momberg, Climate Protection Coordinator of the City of Jena, who informed them about the objectives and tasks of municipal heat planning. André Sack, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Energie Jena-Pößneck GmbH, reported on the municipal utility's heating network strategy and current studies, e.g. on the potential use of waste heat from the central sewage treatment plant by means of a large wastewater heat pump.
Finally, Paula Möhring and Nico Jaeschke from HIC - Hamburg Institut Consulting GmbH provided information on the current status of municipal heat planning. According to them, the analysis of the existing situation and potential has already been completed, heat consumption recorded and potential renewable energy and waste heat identified. These findings now form the basis for dividing Jena into the prospective heat supply areas.
The city of Jena will present the final results of the municipal heat planning at another public event. The final heat planning should be available at the beginning of 2025.
