07.09.2023

The city of Jena participates in the nationwide warning day on 14.09.2023. Starting at 11:00 a.m., the fire department will sound warning tones over all 21 digital sirens in Jena: 6 tones of 5 seconds each with a 5 second pause. This will be followed by the following voice announcement over the sirens:

"Attention! Attention! This is the Jena City Council. This is a rehearsal warning for the nationwide warning day 2023. There is no danger for the population."

The announcement is repeated once. Finally, the all-clear will be given by the sirens of the city of Jena at 11:45 am (1 minute continuous tone). This will be followed by the announcement:

"Attention! Attention! This is the city administration of Jena. This is the all-clear for the nationwide warning day 2023. There was no danger to the population."

Jena citizens are also informed about the warning day via social media and the municipal website jena.de.

During the official warning period, a citizens' hotline is also switched on at 03641/ 49-3714 to answer questions from the citizenry. It is requested that no questions be submitted via the emergency control center.

Second test to the Cell Broadcast - warning messages on the cell phone

Cell Broadcast is also being tested for the second time this year. This is a warning message that is sent directly to the cell phone via the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK). The BBK provides an overview of which devices are capable of receiving or which requirements exist in order to receive Cell Broadcast messages on their website.

The trial warning is sent by the national warning center at the BBK to all warning multipliers connected to the Modular Warning System (MoWaS). These include, for example, radio stations and app servers. They in turn send the sample warning in their systems or programs to end devices such as radios and warning apps.

Background to the nationwide warning day

Warning Day is a nationwide day of action organized by the BBK. Starting at 11:00 a.m., the federal and state governments as well as participating counties, independent cities and municipalities test their warning devices in a joint exercise.

The aim is to check technical processes for their function and possible weak points, to improve them if necessary and to sensitize the population with regard to the available warning means such as sirens, warning apps and digital billboards.
