Club sport is booming in Jena
With 28,720 registered members, the city on the Saale has reached a new high. This represents an increase of 1,100 members compared to the previous year and makes it clear that sport plays a key role in Jena - 26.1 percent of Jena's population is active in a Jena sports club according to an evaluation of the survey.
Growth in almost all areas
The strongest growth in membership is in the 7 to 14 age group. However, the city's sports clubs were also able to grow in almost all other age groups. The total number of members is spread across a total of 118 clubs that are represented under the umbrella of organized sport in Jena. This also represents an increase of two clubs compared to the previous year.
With 5,610 members, FC Carl Zeiss Jena e.V. remains the club with the most members in the city. It is followed by the Universitätssportverein Jena e.V. (3,823), the Deutsche Alpenverein Sektion Jena e.V. (2,338) and SV SCHOTT Jena (1,780). The largest percentage increase was recorded by the "Sonne im Paradies" association - with an impressive increase in membership of over 55%.
Thuringian Football Association remains number one
There is also a clear number one at association level: the Thuringian Football Association continues to be the sports association with the most members in Jena. Soccer thus remains the most popular sport in the city.
"These figures underline the importance of organized sport in Jena," emphasizes Sören Genzler, Chairman of the Stadtsportbund Jena e.V. . "Our clubs do a great job of offering sports for all age groups and ability levels. The growth shows that people in Jena appreciate the value of sport - be it for health, competition or the community."
"This continued positive development shows that investments in sports facilities in Jena are falling on very fertile ground and that people in our city are looking for and using the sports facilities. For me, the rising numbers are also a clear mandate for our city to continue on this path,"
said Johannes Schleußner, head of the sports department.
