Commemoration of the bombing of Jena 80 years ago

12.03.2025

80 years ago, Jena experienced the heaviest bombing during the Second World War. A total of five bombing raids and artillery bombardments killed more than 800 people in Jena and injured well over 1,100. Three percent of the 79,000 inhabitants at the time died or were injured. 2,763 houses with 9,720 apartments in the city were so badly damaged that they became uninhabitable.

Anyone interested is cordially invited to a commemorative event:

  • on Wednesday, 19.03.2025, at 12:30 p.m.
  • at the memorial stele in Rathausgasse

Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche will give a speech and lay a wreath in memory of the victims.

At 12:00 noon, immediately before the commemoration, there will be an invitation to pray together in the town church.
