dotSource Campus - progress and preliminary development plan
The plans for the construction of the new dotSource campus on the site of the old fire station continue to progress. The digital agency presented the project-related development plan at a public meeting of the Jena Zentrum district council on 23.03.2023. The city council will decide on the project on 19.04.2023 before the documents are made available to interested members of the public in May.
Planning for the construction project by Jena-based digital agency dotSource has continued steadily in recent months. The draft for the project-related development plan was submitted to the city of Jena, marking another milestone at the beginning of 2023. The document and the associated visualizations describe the planned construction project in detail for the first time. This has been further refined in recent months on the basis of the early public participation and the more than 200 comments received:
The center of the dotSource Campus is a six-story office building with approx. 12,500m² of office space, which is intended entirely for the company's employees. Bright, modern working and creative landscapes are to be created here, which will surpass the current space above the Goethe Galerie. Today, 380 people already work at dotSource in Jena and the company plans to continue to grow strongly in the coming years.
Living space close to the city center and new communal meeting places
The directly connected residential building in the form of a tower will house up to 52 rental apartments of various sizes, thus creating new living space in the center of Jena, which, due to its valley location, leaves very little room for extensive development. A small grocery store will also move into the first floor to provide short distances from the residential tower and the ladies' quarter. In the publicly accessible open spaces on Saalbahnhofstrasse, the "Digital Art Park" with trees and benches invites employees and residents alike to linger. There will also be a sandpit for children.
"We ourselves come from Jena and we are very keen to change the quality of life in the city for the better for our employees and all citizens," says Christian Otto Grötsch, describing his intention behind the construction project. "With the dotSource Campus, we are therefore not only creating a home for our dotSource family, but also want to open up new opportunities for the urban community with the Digital Art Park and a small retailer."
Construction project in continuity with the future location of Jena
The new dotSource Campus sees itself as a link between the historic Damenviertel district and the modern urban structures of Jena. The building follows the street line and forms a clear spatial separation from the adjoining street - in the style of the Damenviertel. The building opens up directly to the residential district through loggias, balconies and recessed terraces on all floors.
Mayor and head of department Christian Gerlitz is very pleased with the progress of the project: "The dotSource Campus combines the strengthening of the local economy with the establishment of a striking landmark in our city. I am convinced that the combination of office use and publicly accessible open spaces is a benefit for the entire Damenviertel district."
Public inspection from May 2023
The project-related development plan, including all associated expert opinions, is currently being submitted to the city of Jena for detailed examination. The city council will make a final decision on the draft at its meeting in April. Interested parties will then be able to view it publicly from 4 May to 16 June 2023. An information event for the public is planned for 30.05.2023. This and other information will be available in advance at campus.dotSource.de(link is external) and from May onwards on the city's website.
All dates and opportunities for participation will be published in the official gazette and on the city's website at the end of April. During the exhibition period, all documents will be available for inspection in the administration building at Am Anger 26 and digitally. We recommend making an appointment to discuss the documents with an employee of the urban planning department. The relevant e-mail address will be announced in good time via the channels mentioned.
