Jena City Council adopts new street cleaning statutes
At its meeting yesterday (18.09.2024), the Jena City Council adopted the new street cleaning statutes. This forms the basis for a clean cityscape in Jena by clearly defining responsibilities, cleaning intervals and standards. Public areas are thus cleaned regularly, which serves both road safety and quality of life.
Adjustments to the street directory
A key part of the revision was updating the street directory. Current traffic data was taken into account in order to classify streets into cleaning classes according to need. For example, Karl-Brauckmann-Straße and Otto-Wagner-Straße are no longer included due to their traffic significance. A small section of Kronfeldstraße was included.
Overall, the classification of the streets has proved its worth and continues to ensure uniform and regular cleaning of comparable streets within a cleaning area.
Increase in street cleaning fees
On 01.01.2025, street cleaning fees will be increased by around 20% for the first time in eight years. This adjustment is necessary to offset increased costs. The main reasons are
- Inflation
- Higher procurement costs for vehicles with alternative drive systems
- Rising operating costs and wages
- Increased disposal costs, e.g. due to CO₂ pricing
Editorial changes
In addition to content adjustments, the wording of the articles of association has been modernized. References to ordinances and laws now use the wording "the respective valid version" instead of specific dates.
Background
Kommunalservice Jena (KSJ) is responsible for street cleaning on behalf of the city. Statutory regulations require street cleaning charges to be reviewed and recalculated every four years to ensure that they cover costs. In the course of this review, the street directory was also adapted to current circumstances.
