"Jenabonus" fare reduction must be suspended for adults

17.12.2020

Mobility ticket for children and young people remains in place for the 2020/21 school year

The "Jenabonus" fare reduction for eligible adults will no longer be granted from 01.01.2021 until further notice.

According to the city administration, there is no legal basis for this. The reason for this is the upcoming "budget-free period" - provisional budget management in accordance with Section 10 of the Thuringian law on municipal double-entry accounting. The city may then only make expenditures to which it is legally or contractually obligated.

This means that from January until further notice, it will no longer be possible to purchase discounted tickets and monthly passes from Jena's public transport system. This will apply at least until the state administration office approves a budget for 2021. This is expected in the 2nd quarter of 2021 at the earliest. Only if the "Jenabonus" can then be anchored in the budget again will those entitled receive a price reduction again.

Until the end of the 2020/2021 school year, children and young people who have received a so-called mobility ticket for free use of local public transport in Jena are not affected. This chip card is valid for the entire school year until the start of the summer vacations.
