No events with 500 or more participants - quarantine for returnees
Jena bans events with 500 or more participants - returnees from risk areas obliged to quarantine at home for 14 days
As part of efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus infections, the city of Jena has decided to take further measures to protect public safety. To this end, two general decrees have been issued that will apply from Thursday, March 12, 2020.
The first order is aimed at residents of Jena who have been in a risk area within the last 14 days. For a period of 14 days after their return, these persons are obliged to stay exclusively in their homes or in areas of their residential properties used exclusively by themselves.
The scope of the risk areas(link is external) is based on the current specifications of the Robert Koch Institute.
Pupils and children up to school age who return to Jena from risk areas are prohibited from entering a school, daycare facility or daycare center for a period of 14 days after their arrival. Parents are responsible for this. This absence is not considered a violation of compulsory school attendance.
Furthermore, the above-mentioned group of people are obliged to contact the Health Department of the City of Jena immediately and inform them of the circumstances of their stay in the risk area (date, place, contacts). Further rules of conduct will also be explained to them there. In the event of symptoms of corona disease, the family doctor or the fever consultation hour must be contacted immediately by telephone (03641 - 49 33 33). Contact with other people should be kept to a minimum and public transport should not be used under any circumstances.
This decree is valid up to and including April 19, 2020.
The second order prohibits all events with 500 or more participants in the city of Jena. This also includes dance events, concerts, gatherings, trade fairs, exhibitions, processions and sporting events. This applies to both open-air and indoor events.
This measure also applies up to and including April 19, 2020. Both orders are based on the enforcement of the Act on the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases in Humans (Infection Protection Act). In addition, the General Principles of Risk Assessment and Recommendations for Action for Major Events of the Robert Koch Institute were applied.
In addition, JenaKultur has canceled all events of the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra, the flea market and the Holzmarkt until further notice.
These restrictions on public life were ordered by the staff for extraordinary events after careful consideration. In consultation with representatives of the University Hospital and the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, the staff has determined that all possibilities will be exhausted to contain the spread of the coronavirus. The city of Jena is aware of the economic impact these steps will have on companies in the event industry and will do everything in its power to provide support at state and federal level.
Benjamin Koppe, Head of Security and Head of Staff, is raising awareness among the citizens of Jena: "Please reconsider your personal plans and habits where several people come together. The aim must be to prevent infection and break possible chains of infection. Based on the latest scientific findings, our focus is particularly on protecting vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and people with pre-existing conditions. Above all, we need to gain time to contain the spread of the virus so that the university hospital and doctors in private practice in particular can prepare even better for the coming weeks."
Lord Mayor Thomas Nitzsche is hoping for the active support of the population: "As a city, we are acting decisively to protect the health of every individual. This means inconvenience for all of us - we are aware of that. The rising number of coronavirus cases in Thuringia leaves us no choice here. I ask for your understanding for the measures taken. It also depends on your active cooperation."
