No open for business Sundays in December 2020

This year, no more open for sale Sundays may take place in Jena. This has been determined by the Thuringia State Administration Office. The reason for this decision is the cancellation of the Jena Christmas market. However, according to the state administration office, the cancellation of the Christmas market means that the special occasion and thus the legal requirement for an open for business Sunday is no longer applicable.

"We regret that the legal situation here does not permit any other decision by the State Administration Office. For the local retail trade, the cancellation is an additional bitter pill to swallow in these already difficult times. We would have wished for something different, but we can legally understand the decision", says Lord Mayor Thomas Nitzsche.
