Stadtwerke donates 5,000 euros for young firefighters

21.10.2021

5,000 euros for junior staff and the promotion of voluntary work in the Jena fire department: with this donation to the Jena City Fire Brigade Association, Stadtwerke Jena has now said "thank you" for the cooperation during the successful joint operation during the district heating disaster last February.

Dr. Thomas Nitzsche, Lord Mayor of the City of Jena, and Gunar Schmidt, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Energie Jena-Pößneck, looked back on the operation in the freezing cold during the symbolic handover of the cheque at the emergency response center. Both once again praised the "excellent cooperation" with the firefighters.

Looking back: What began on 10.02.2021 at 08:00 in the morning as an "unclear district heating defect" in Jena-North became an official disaster declared by the city over the course of the day. 6,500 households in the north of Jena were without heating and hot water - in double-digit minus temperatures. In the night of February 11 at around 3:15 a.m., the news came that the repair of the defective district heating pipe had been successfully completed by experts from the municipal utility company and external companies. The heating started up again in the early hours of the morning.

On February 10, for example, six Jena nursing homes in Jena North had been equipped with heaters by the fire department. This prevented sick and immobile people from having to endure the hardships of a possible evacuation. The donation from Stadtwerke will now be used, among other things, to promote young talent at the fire department association, said Phillipp Stacke, Chairman of the association, at the symbolic handover of the cheque.
