How can the sports city of Jena become even more attractive?
What is the sports behavior of the people of Jena? What are their habits and needs? How do they rate the existing sports landscape in their home town? The questionnaire on sports development, which is to be sent to around 10,000 randomly selected people in Jena in mid-November, deals with issues such as these. At the same time, all sports clubs in the city and all schools will receive a questionnaire tailored to their needs. The head of the sports department Benjamin Koppe, sports officer Vanessa Baum, sports development officer Matthias Weißbrodt and Wolfgang Schabert from the Institute for Cooperative Planning and Sports Development provided information on this and the overall process for updating the sports development plan at the public launch today in the historic town hall. Among those present were representatives of clubs, employees of the state sports association, the city sports association, the municipal real estate company, the school sports coordinator of the city of Jena and representatives of the parliamentary groups from the Jena city council.
Survey of the population, sports clubs and schools
"The survey of the population of Jena on sports behavior also marks the start of the participation process for updating our sports development planning. Schools and sports clubs are also in focus and will be surveyed. We are hoping for a high level of response," said Benjamin Koppe, head of the sports department. The survey will run until the beginning of December and the data will be analyzed by January. The resulting focal points will then be further developed in workshops by employees of the city administration, KIJ, KSJ, clubs and political groups together with experts.
In the first phase of planning, a great deal of data has already been collected, funding applied for and a scientific planning institute commissioned. In the phase now beginning, the aim is to obtain as accurate a picture as possible of the population's sporting behavior - differentiated according to urban planning areas and age groups. The aim of the process is to design the framework conditions in such a way that they invite people to be active, but also enable top performance and make Jena even more attractive as a sports city overall.
The background
Every municipality in Thuringia is obliged to draw up a sports development plan every ten years. This sets out the strategic direction of sport, sports infrastructure and sports funding. The current plan for Jena dates back to 2015 and is now being updated. This process should be completed in the fall of 2024.
