New book phone booth inaugurated at the Wasserachse in Winzerla

In the Winzerla district, it is now possible to place books in a converted telephone box and give them a second life thanks to a proposal in the 2023 citizens' budget. Markus Meß from the district office reported that many people in the district had expressed this wish, so he submitted the proposal on their behalf last year. With 232 votes, it just barely slipped into the overall budget of 100,000 euros. Now it is one of the first to be implemented.

"The district office took on the project implementation and almost did detective work to locate one of the last yellow telephone boxes. We as a city provided support through the Urban Development Department, the KSJ and the Citizen Participation Coordination Office. The result is a beautiful and sustainable exchange opportunity for everyone in Winzerla. A big thank you to everyone involved," says Christian Gerlitz, Mayor and Head of Urban Development and Environment.

The inauguration was supported by children from the Wirbelwind daycare center. Not only did they help Mayor Gerlitz cut the ribbon, but they also had great fun putting the books that had already been handed in to the district office on the shelves. As a next step, the district office is planning to redesign the outside of the almost historic telephone box with the children.

The book telephone box was financed with a sum of 3,000 euros from the 2023 citizens' budget.
