Noise action plan now available online

The noise action plan of the city of Jena is now available on the environment portal online. It contains measures to reduce environmental noise - especially road traffic noise.

"I am very pleased that the updated noise action plan is now available. This gives us a concrete roadmap for implementing measures to reduce environmental noise and thus improve the quality of life of the citizens of Jena. Many thanks to everyone who took part in the consultation process and provided feedback"said Mayor and Head of Department Christian Gerlitz.

This is already the fourth round of noise action planning, which has to be updated every five years. It has been reviewed and revised over the past few months. The city council approved it on 21.03.2024 (Report 24/2382-BV). It is valid until 2028.

Public participation

The City of Jena's Environment Department also relied on suggestions from the public when drawing up the plan. A total of two rounds of public participation were carried out:

The first part took place as part of an online survey from 13.05. to 18.06.2023. Here, the population could:

  • Report noise pollution in their area,
  • make suggestions for noise reduction and
  • propose noise reduction measures.

The findings of the survey, the results of a new noise calculation and the evaluation of previous plans were used to develop specific measures and proposals to reduce traffic noise in the city of Jena. These were summarized in the draft noise action plan and the associated action plan.

Both were available to the public from 17.01. to 11.02.2024 and could be commented on. These suggestions were also incorporated into the final version of the noise action plan.

Presentation on the noise action plan

Cornelia Bührer and Katrin Seitter from the Environmental Protection Department will give a brief insight into the noise action plan and the results for Jena on the occasion of the international "Day against Noise" on 24.04.2024 at the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena. All interested parties are cordially invited to attend the specialist presentations at the regional and interdisciplinary conference on measuring noise, the effects of noise and noise reduction or noise avoidance from 13:15 in the auditorium of the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena.
