STRABAG Real Estate acquires construction site on the Eichplatz in Jena

Jena has taken another milestone on the way to the redesign of the Eichplatz. Today, the city of Jena and project developer STRABAG Real Estate sealed the purchase contract for construction area A of the square located in the heart of the city.

Consensual urban development

Three high-rise buildings are to be built on the 3,500 m² site adjacent to the Jentower, giving the city an urban silhouette. So far, the site is undeveloped. In the future, apartments, offices, shops and restaurants will provide a vital city life. At least, this is the plan of the catalogue of requirements which the city has drawn up in close cooperation with the citizens of Jena. Based on these specifications, an investor competition was announced, from which STRABAG Real Estate emerged as the winner. Its design, submitted together with Müller-Reimann architects, best fulfilled the municipal wishes.



What also speaks for the owner is her many years of experience: founded in 1965, she has successfully completed more than 600 projects since then. These include major inner-city renewal projects such as the City of Cologne Trade Fair and the Heinrich von Stephan Businessmile in Freiburg.



Dr. Thomas Nitzsche, Lord Mayor of the city of Jena, is delighted with the milestone achieved: "At the end of the day, it is just a signature. But one with positive radiance. The new Eichplatz site will come and make Jena's city center more attractive, also for the surrounding area. For this, my sincere thanks to all those involved."



Christian Gerlitz, mayor and head of the department for urban development, adds: "A new city center for Jena will become reality thanks to the broad-based citizen participation. The contract is now sealed. We look forward to further concrete project implementation with a reliable partner".
