World AIDS Day on December 1
The annual World AIDS Day will take place on December 1, 2024 under the motto "Walk the path of rights: my health, my right". The international day of remembrance and action has been affirming the rights of HIV-positive people worldwide for more than 30 years and is committed to living together without prejudice and exclusion.
This year's motto underlines the central importance of minority rights in the fight against HIV. The UNAIDS project (Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS) particularly emphasizes the need for equal access to prevention, counselling, testing and medical care for all people.
According to current information from the Robert Koch Institute, at least 860 people are living with HIV in Thuringia, with 45 new infections registered in 2023.
To mark World Aids Day, the network "vielfältig l(i)eben in Jena" is organizing a day of action at the School for Health and Social Affairs on 2 December. Pupils will be informed about HIV and sexually transmitted infections at various activity stands. A particular focus will be on promoting acceptance and reducing fear of contact.
